Athens Football Players Involved In On Campus Stabbing

Athens, AL –   Athens City School officials along with Athens police have confimed the identies of two AHS football players involved in a stabbing shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.  The altercation reportedly took place inside the Athens High fieldhouse.

Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson confirmed in a press conference late Tuesday that Rashaun Anderson, a 16 year old junior member of the Golden Eagle football program is accused of stabbing teammate, 18 year old senior, Tarik Malone.   Athens City Schools spokesman, Terry Roller, confirmed that Malone was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

According to witnesses inside the fieldhouse, several eagle football players wrestled the knife away from Anderson.

Anderson was arrested and charged with second-degree assault with a deadly weapon and booked into the Limestone County jail with $5,000 bond.

The 2-7 Golden Eagles are set to finish their season at Deshler High School Friday night in Tuscombia.
