Trussville, AL – Six months after being named Hewitt-Trussville’s head men’s basketball coach, Jim Sanderson is out.
Trussville City Schools announced, in a press release, that the son of legendary University of Alabama basketball coach, Wimp Sanderson, had been terminated. The younger Sanderson took over the Husky’s basketball program in April after two stints, spanning 24 years, as Head Coach at Montgomery’s Faulkner University.
At Faulkner, Sanderson lead the Eagles to a 481-297 record including the school’s only NAIA national title. Sanderson’s teams won three Southern States Athletic Conference regular season titles, four SSAC tournament championships and made eight NAIA tournament appearances.
Before taking over at Faulkner, Sanderson coached at Guntersville and Curry high schools.
The Huskies are coming off a 7-23 campaign last season which included going win-less in 7A area 6.
Mike Dutton, who resigned after last season, was the fourth head coach to lead the Huskies since the 2011-2012 season. Tim Reeves lead the team for one season, 2011-2012. Zane Arnold coached the Huskies during the 2012-2013 season.
Sanderson did not coach a regular season game at Hewitt.
