Top ranked Bucs too much for improving Warriors

Hoover 31 – Thompson 14

Hoover, AL – The 3-2 Thompson Warriors who loaded the bus at the Hoover Met Friday night did not look like a team who hasn’t posted a winning record since 2006.  This Warriors squad definitely did not look like a team coming off a winless 2014 campaign.   With wins over Wetumpka and rivals Pelham and Mountain Brook the Warriors are certainly improving under first year Head Coach Mark Freeman.

The Warriors are improving but there is a reason Josh Niblett just posted his 100th win with the #1 ranked Hoover Bucs (5-0).

Trailing 21-7, early in the third, Briarwood Christian transfer Walker Lott connected with Carlos Stephens on a 72 yard touchdown strike pulling the Warriors to within a score 21-14.

Following a Hoover field goal late in the third the Warriors best chance at points came up empty as Hoover’s P.J. Hall pulled down a Lott pass to seal the deal for the Bucs.

The Bucs look poised to continue their run through 7A on their path to Bryant-Denny.   Thompson my find some tough sledding in the second half of the season but you may not find Hoover scheduling Mark Freeman’s Warriors for homecoming in the years ahead.

Both squads will take the week off before returning to action.  Hoover hosts Spain Park at the Met on October 1st while Thompson welcomes Vestavia Hills to Alabaster.
