Daphne Names Lawrence Yelding Interim Head Coach

The Daphne Trojans have a new head football coach for the first time since 2004.  The Trojans tapped head softball coach Lawrence Yelding to serve as the program’s fifth head coach, at least temporarily.

Baldwin County Schools Superintendent, Eddie Tyler, announced Monday that the system would like to have a permanent replacement in time for spring training but there is no specific time table for hiring a new coach.  It is unclear if Yelding is interested in or will be considered for the permanent position.

Longtime Trojans head coach, Glenn Vickery, who had been placed on paid administrative leave pending a human resources review, announced his retirement on Monday.   The review will not go forward following Vickery’s retirement.

Vickery took over the Daphne program in 2004 following the resignation of Trojans coach and current AHSAA Executive Director Steve Savarese.  He finished his career with a record of 245-111, including state championships at Daphne (2010) and Mobile Christian (1995).
