Arab to move to off-campus football stadium in 2017

Arab, AL – This fall will likely be the last time the Arab Arabian Knights’ football squad will take the filed at The Pit, on campus, at AHS.

Arab originally planned to move into a new football facility in 15 years, however concerns over the safety of the synthetic turf planned for The Pit pushed up the timeline considerably.

Originally, the plans were to resurface the existing stadium with artificial turf, allowing a new gym to be built on the Knights existing practice field.  The reduction in wear and tear on the synthetic surface would reduce need for an additional practice faculty.

Arab votes approved a property tax increase earlier this year to allow the school system to construct a new athletic complex, which will include the new football stadium, baseball, softball, tennis, track and soccer facilities, at “The Farm” complex in north Arab.

When construction on the new stadium is complete, the current stadium will transition to an on-campus practice facility.  The Knights current home was constructed after the majority of Arab High was destroyed by fire in 1975.
