Walker holds on for opening game victory over Austin

Jasper, AL – The Walker Vikings (1-0) came away with a hard fought victory over the Austin Black Bears (0-1) to kick off the 2016 season..

The visiting Black Bears came up six yards short of taking an opening game victory back to Decatur as a fourth and goal, go ahead, touchdown pass fell incomplete with eight seconds left to play.

The Vikings quarterback receiver tandem of Micheal Creer to Isiah Cox proved to be too much for the Black Bears as the pair partnered for both of Walker’s touchdowns.

Creer and Cox connected for touchdowns of 21 and 28 yards, both in the first half.

Walker is coming off a 9-3, region championship, season in 2015.  The Vikings travel to Hueytown Friday night to take on the 5A Golden Gophers.  Hueytown (1-0) is coming off a 20-18 win over Center Point.

Austin will play host to the 7A Bob Jones Patriots Friday night at Shorty Ogle Stadium.  Bob Jones (1-0) is coming off a 35-14 win over the Dorman Cavaliers of Roebuck, SC.
