Mortimer Jordan takes down Etowah, advances to quarterfinals

Kimberly, AL – Dustan Goode’s Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils will advance to the AHSAA quarterfinals for the second consecutive season after getting past Etowah (9-3) 44-30.

A 22 point fourth quarter performance, which included two Spencer Brown TD’s, locked up the win for the seventh ranked Blue Devils.

Senior running back Spencer Brown lead the Jordan rushing attack with 241 yards on 35 carries, including three touchdowns and three two point conversions.  The UAB commit averaged 6.9 yards per carry on offense while racking up three tackles and a sack on defense.

Jordan’s Douglas Moore completed three of 10 passes for 32 yards with one touchdown through the air and one interception.  He added 26 yards on the ground on 11 attempts including a 12 yard touchdown scamper midway through the third quarter.

MJHS hosts Over the Mountain foe Briarwood Christian (11-1) Friday day night in a quarterfinal rematch of top 10 teams.  The region 5 champion Lions defeated Jordan 23-14 during the regular season.   Briarwood holds a 2-0 record, all time, against the Blue Devils.
