Clay, AL – After eight seasons at the helm of the Clay-Chalkville Cougars football program, Jerry Hood has stepped down.
The 2014 USA Today Alabama Coach of the Year complied a 75-26 record including four region titles and back to back visits to the 6A state championship game in 2014 and 2015.
Before taking over at Clay-Chalkville Hood served as the head coach at Shelby County’s Oak Mountain High School. He lead the upstart Eagles to a 28-26 record over five seasons including the programs only trip to the 6A semi-finals in 2005.
Clay-Chalkville is coming off it’s worst season in the Hood era, (6-5) with the exception of 2011 when the program officially finished 1-9 after being forced to forfeit nine games.
Hood began his coaching career as an assistant McAdory in 1993.
Despite the timing of Hood’s unexpected resignation, the Clay-Chalkville head coaching position will likely garner interest from many big name head coaches both in and out of the state of Alabama.
