Leeds Taps Causey As Next Volleyball Coach

Leeds, AL– Leeds will have a new volleyball coach, but a familiar face leading the team next season.

Melissa Causey was hired this week to be the Greenwave’s next varsity volleyball coach. Causey has served the school’s athletic department as, head middle school volleyball coach, assistant varsity girls basketball coach, and head varsity girls basketball coach. Prior to joining Leeds, she served as a volleyball and basketball coach for five years.

“I am looking forward to being able to coach these girls at the high school level in addition to the girls that are already a part of the program,” Causey said. “I am thrilled at the opportunity to lead this great program.”

Causey will exit the Leeds Middle School volleyball program after two years with a 47-4 record.

“Coach Causey understands the components needed to be successful as a player and coach and I look forward to watching the Leeds High volleyball program grow under her direction,” Leeds principal Brent Shaw said.

Causey takes over a Leeds program that finished the 2016-2017 season with a 22-7 record and a Class 4A Area 9 Championship. She replaces Shelby Woods, who stepped down after two seasons to focus on teaching.

Mellisa will continue her duties as head varsity girls basketball coach and elementary teacher. Larry Caffee will continue his role as assistant coach.
