Homewood AD steps down

Homewood, AL – After leading the Homewood Patriots girls basketball team to the 2017 AHSAA 6A state title, Kevin Tubbs is stepping down as athletic director and head women’s basketball coach.

Tubbs is exiting the high school athletics world and stepping into the private sector.  He will be relocating to Seattle, WA to take a position with medical research firm Seattle Science Foundation.

The 10 year coaching veteran began his head coaching career, on the hardwood, at Leeds High School, leading the Green Wave men’s hoops program for three seasons before taking over the Minor Tigers women’s squad.

After two seasons at Minor, Tubbs spent four years at Mountain Brook, where he lead the Spartans women’s basketball program and served as the Physical Education Department Chair.

The UAB graduate also served as an assistant coach at Birmingham-Southern College assisting in the creation of the schools first Division I women’s basketball team.

His career head coaching record currently stands at 218-65 over 10 seasons.

Before Tubbs became Homewood City Schools system wide athletic director in 2011, the Patriots sports programs were lead by Carol Chestnutt as girls athletic director and David Jones as boys director of athletics.
