Briarwood upsets #2 Mtn Brook to advance to LAX state championship

Mountain Brook, AL – The Briarwood Christian Lions became the first team to score an upset in the 2017 Alabama varsity lacrosse postseason with a 13-12 victory over the second ranked Mountain Brook Spartans (11-3).

Mountain Brook’s season was highlighted by regular season wins over top five teams Hoover and Briarwood.  Head coach Brian Dowd’s Spartans did not fall below second in the GBYLA standings during the 2017 season.

Rick Burgess’ Briarwood Lions will square off against the top ranked and  undefeated Vestavia Hills Rebels for the Alabama varsity lacrosse crown Saturday night at 7:00 in Bimingham-Southern College’s General Charles Krulak Stadium.

The Lions fell to the Rebels 20-12 in the teams regular season meeting in early April.  Vestavia has been the only team to score more than 14 points against Briarwood in 2017.
