Former Mortimer Jordan QB receives pre-season collegiate honors

Spartanburg, SC – Former Mortimer Jordan Blue Devil and current Samford University quarterback Devlin Hodges has been named preseason Offensive Player of the Year by the Southern Conference.

He was also named All-Conference first team quarterback.  

The Kimberly native received the honors at the leagues annual media days event in Spartanburg, SC.  

Hodges, who was named 2016 SoCon Offensive Player of the Year, currently holds Samford single-season records for passing yards (4,088), pass attempts (530), completions (375), completion percentage (70.8), touchdown passes (36), total offense (4,310) and most offensive plays (641), and is tied for the record for most touchdowns (40). Hodges also holds single-game school records for total offense (513 vs. Mississippi State) and most offensive plays (86 vs. Mississippi State).

The standout signal caller is poised for a record breaking junior season, having been ranked second in the nation for total offense in 2016.  

Hodges was a four-year starter at Mortimer Jordan.  During his final three seasons, serving as the Blue Devils’ starting quarterback, he passed for 4,900 yards and 44 touchdowns.   

Hodges and the Bulldogs open 2017 August 31, at home, against the Kennesaw State Owls.
