Andalusia to discontinue use of Arizona logo
Andalusia, AL – The Andalusia Bulldogs are the most recent Alabama high school athletics program to be forced to re-brand their teams identity. The University of Arizona recently challenged the school’s use of their trademarked “A” logo.
Andalusia began using a modified version of the Arizona Wildcats logo in 2015.
Earlier this week Andalusia City School superintendent Ted Watson released the following statement:
“Andalusia City School administrators recently received notification from attorneys representing the University of Arizona considering the use of the Arizona logo. As a result of that correspondence, a trademark attorney was consulted to determine if in fact, the Andalusia logo violated the University of Arizona’s trademark. It was determined that the designs were indeed too similar. Because of the objection of the University of Arizona, Andalusia High School will therefore need to modify and or alter its present logo. School officials are working with the board’s attorney and with representatives from the University of Arizona so that a new logo can be phased in to replace the existing one.”
In addition to the Arizona logo, the school has prominently featured other logos including Bulldog images on team uniforms, equipment and athletic facilities.
Several other Alabama high school athletic programs have faced similar circumstances in recent years including Spanish Fort High and Prattville Christian Academy. Both schools have replaced the contested images with marks designed specifically for their athletic programs.
