Spain Park knocks off Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 24-10

Hoover, AL – Shawn Raney’s Spain Park Jaguars kicked off 2018 in impressive fashion knocking off 6A power Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 24-10 Friday night at Bob Finley Field.

Jags kicker Trevor Bernier nailed a 30 field goal with less than a minute remaining in the opening quarter to put Spain Park on the board 3-0 early.  Jalen Henderson extended the Jaguar lead to 10-0 with just over two minutes to play in the first half as he scampered into the endzone from just outside the Hillcrest 20 yard line.

Spain Park carried a 10-0 advantage into the break.

Following a scoreless third quarter, Spain Park signal caller Mason Pronk extended the Jaguar lead to 17-0, rushing into the endzone from 12 yards out.  Later in the fourth, Nassir Boyd put the Patriots on the board, running the ball into the endzone from just inside the Jaguar 30 yard line.

Henderson scored for the second time late in the final stanza, this time from the 11, to extend the Jaguar lead to 24-7.

Hillcrest’s Kyah Moore capped the game at 24-14 on the next play, returning the Jaguar kickoff 99 yards for a score.

Spain Park quarterback Mason Pronk passed for 108 yards, completing 13 of 19 passes and adding a rushing TD in his first start for the Jags.  Running back Jalen Henderson finished the night with 172 yards rushing on 31 attempts and racked up a pair of scores.
