Mtn Brook blanks Center Point 43-0

Mountain Brook, AL – Mountain Brook (2-0) sophomore quarterback Strother Gibbs passed for 50 yards, completing 4-7 passes and accounting for three scores as the Spartans cruised past the Center Point Eagles (0-1) 43-0 Thursday night at Spartan Stadium.

Gibbs got the ball rolling early, connecting with receiver Blake Roth from just outside the Eagle 10 yard line in the opening quarter.  After the Spartans recovered an onside kick, Gibbs hooked up with Roth again, this time for a 27 yard score.

The signal caller, who was making his first varsity start, pitched in his third score of the first half bolting into the endzone from 25 yards out to put the 7A Spartans up 21-0 early.

Daniel Wilbanks was the next Spartan to cross the goal line, taking a Gibbs handoff eight yards into the endzone.  A safety and an A.J. Gates 25 yard rushing score put the home team up 37-0 at the break.

Ben Savage slashed into the endzone from just inside the Center Point five yard line to cap the scoring at 43.

The Spartans travel to Northport next Friday night to take on the 1-1 Tuscaloosa County Wildcats.  Center Point travels north to Mortimer Jordan to take on the Blue Devils at Jimmie Trotter Stadium.
