#1 Briarwood Christian blanks Wenonah 29-0

Birmingham, AL – The Briarwood Christian Lions improved to 4-0 with a 29-0 shutout win over the Wenonah Dragons (1-2, 1-2) Friday night at Lion’s Pride Stadium.  

The win extended the #1 ranked Lions regular season win streak to 17 games. 

After settling for a pair of Noah Nall field goals, Lions sophomore signal caller Jonah Carroll connected with J.R. Tran-Reno for six putting Briarwood up 13-0  midway through the second quarter.  

Following a Dragons punt, Carroll hooked up with Blake McKenna to put the Lions up by 20.   After Wenonah quarterback Courtney McGhee was flagged for intentional grounding in the endzone resulting in a safety, Tran-Reno hauled in his second touchdown reception of the the night, this one from 56 yards out putting Fred Yancey’s Lions up 29-0.  

The shutout win was Briarwood’s second straight.  The stingy Lion’s defense has only surrendered  12 points this season.  

Briarwood signal caller Jonah Carroll completed 10 of 16 passes for 153 yards and three scores.  Senior Vanderbilt commit Tran-Reno hauled in five catches for 102 yards.  

Dragons quarterback Courtney McGhee connected on 4 of 12 passes for 13 yards.  

Briarwood steps out of region play to take on the undefeated Hartselle Tigers (4-0, 2-0) next week on the road at J.P. Cain Stadium.  

Wenonah travels to Snitz Snider Memorial Stadium to take on the 3-1 Bessemer City Purple Tigers in week 5.
