- Updated: October 12, 2018

Alabaster, AL – The Thompson Warriors (6-1, 4-1) pulled off a 21-20 nail bitter over 7A region 3 rival Vestavia Hills (4-3, 2-3) Friday night at Warrior Stadium.
Jarrett Crockett put Mark Freeman’s Warriors on the board midway through the first quarter, capping a long Thompson drive with a 2 yard bolt into the endzone. Vestavia running back Cooper Bishop evened the score at seven apiece four minutes into the second period with a two yard run of his own. Thompson’s Michael Pettway extended his streak to 7 games with a touchdown reception late in the half, pulling down a Tagovailoa 31 pass for a score.
The Warriors carried a 14-7 advantage into the locker room.
Bishop pulled the Rebels within a point of the Warriors three minutes into the third, rumbling into the endzone from 20 yards out for his second score of the night. The Rebs missed the point after, the shank would come back to haunt Buddy Anderson’s squad in the final tally.
Joshua Silverman extended the visitors lead to 20-14 on a 30 yard run following Will Brook’s second interception of the night.
Warrior receive Kyle Smoak capped a Thompson drive early in the fourth, pulling down an eight yard Tagovailoa pass from just inside the Vestavia 10 yard line. The score and Evan McGuire’s fourth extra point of the night gave the Warriors a one point lead that they would not relinquish.
Alabama commit Taulia Tagovailoa passed for 322 yards completing 25 of 36 throws with one touchdown and a pair of interceptions. Receiver Michael Pettway hauled in six passes for 134 yards including a 31 yard second quarter touchdown reception. Senior running back Shadrick Byrd racked up 97 yards on the ground. Jarrett Crocket and Kyle Smoak recorded scores for the second ranked Warriors.
