Mtn. Brook takes down Gardendale 38-14

Mountain Brook, AL – The Mountain Brook Spartans (8-2, 5-2) capped the 2018 regular season with a 38-14 win over the 6A Gardendale Rockets (5-5, 3-3) Friday night at Spartan Stadium. 

The win gave Spartans head coach Chris Yeager his 100th career victory, tying him with former Mountain Brook and University of South Alabama head coach Joey Jones.  Yeager will become the program’s winningest head coach if the Spartans take care of business next week in the first round of the AHSAA postseason.  

Mountain Brook quarterback Strother Gibbs finished the night with 48 yards on 3 of 5 attempts throughout the air while pilling up 70 yards on eight carries on the ground.  Senior running back A.J. Gates had a career night rushing for 131 yards on 14 carries and adding a pair of touchdowns.  

Rockets quarterback Will Crowder completed 13 of 22 passes for 98 yards while Latravious Sanders rushed for 39 yards and a score on 11 carries.  

Mountain Brook travels to Decatur next Friday to take on the Austin Black Bears (7-3, 6-1) in the first round of the 7A playoffs.  Gardendale will travel to Fort Payne (6-4, 5-0) to face the Wildcats to kick off the 6A postseason.
