UMS-Wright shuts out Deshler 52-0 to take 4A crown

Auburn, AL – The UMS-Wright Bulldogs (14-0) claimed their eighth state football title Friday afternoon at Jordan-Hare Stadium with a 52-0 drubbing of the Deshler Tigers (9-6)

The Dogs dominated the Friday afternoon contest of the 2018 Super 7 championships from the opening kick.  

Championship game Most Valuable Player Keyshawn Woodyard put the Bulldogs on the board early capping UMS’ six play opening drive with a seven yard scoring grab from Symon Smith. Woodyard hauled in another seven yard grab, this one from Skipper Snypes midway through the third to give the Dogs a two score advantage.  

Woodyard and Snypes hooked up again late in the quarter before William Percy payed off a Richard Brinson interception with time expiring on the the first half.  

UMS-Wright carried a commanding 24-0 lead into the locker room.  

Woodyard picked up where he left off after the break, scoring his fourth touchdown of the afternoon, this one a from Richard Brinson from 17 yards out.  

Bulldogs running back Joe Barber took his turn lighting up the Jordan-Hare scoreboard next capping a 50 yard UMS drive with a one yard dive into the endzone.  Trey Singleton and Edwin Write closed out the scoring for the Dogs, both hitting paydirt from inside the Deshler five yard line.  

UMS signal caller Skipper Snypes finished the afternoon with 182 yards, completing 13 of 17 throws including a pair of touchdowns.  MVP Keyshawn Woodyard lead the Bulldog receiving corps with 128 yards on nine grabs and four scores while Edwin White rushed for 126 yards on 21 attempts and a touchdown.  William Percy was true on six of six point after attempts and knocked through a 36 yard second quarter field goal.  

Deshler quarterback Channin Marmann completed 7 of 14 passes for 32 yards.  Samuel Almon hauled in four passes for 14 yards and Xavier Trotter ran for 56 yards on nine attempts.
