Birmingham, AL – The Briarwood Christian Lions came out on top in an interclass cat fight in the Cahaba Valley Friday night. The 5A Lions got the best of the 6A Hartselle Tigers (1-4, 0-2) 21-10 to improve to 3-2, 2-1 in region play.

Trailing 10-7 entering the final frame, Lions quarterback Christopher Vizzina and senior receiver Blake McKenna took over the contest. The pair connected on a pair of fourth quarter touchdown strikes of 65 and 30 yards to put the Lions over the top.

Vizzina finished the game with 155 yards through the air, completing 6 of 11 throws with a pair of scores and an interception. MeKenna was the freshman signal caller’s favorite target, grabbing 3 receptions for 136 yards and hauling in both of the Lion’s passing touchdowns.

Briarwood steps back into 5A region 4 play next week, welcoming the John Carroll Catholic Cavaliers (2-4, 0-3) to Lion’s Pride Stadium. Hartselle plays host to Tennessee Valley foe Columbia (0-5, 0-2) at J.P. Cain Stadium.
