Lanett knocks off defending champ Mars Hill Bible to take 1A title

Auburn, AL – The Lanett Panters capped a 14-0 perfect season Thursday night knocking off the defending 1A state champion Mars Hill Bible School Panthers in Jordan-Hare stadium.

Despite being out gained 421 yards to 402, head coach Clifford Story’s Panthers clawed back from a 22-20 halftime deficit to claim the program’s second state football title, the first captured in 2017.

The loss snapped Mars Hill’s 24 game winning streak, dating back to September 2018.

Lanett quarterback Kristan Story passed for 249 yards, completing 18-of-23 passes and a pair of scores throughout the air while rushing for 110 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in rout to being named the game’s most valuable player.

Travaunta Abner was Story’s favorite target hauling in 5 grabs for 79 yards and a score.

Mars Hill’s Griffin Hanson completed 9-of-16 passes for 121 yards while Hunter Kilpatrick snagged 4 catches for 46 yards. Justus McDaniel paced the Panthers on the ground rolling up 157 yards on 23 attempts and three scores.
