Brandon Wilcox steps down as Montevallo Bulldogs head coach

Montevallo, AL – Montevallo High School head football coach and athletic director Brandon Wilcox resigned Friday afternoon after a four year stint at the helm of the Bulldogs program.

Wilcox lead the Dawgs to a 28-16 record including a 15-9 mark in region play and three trips to the postseason since taking the reigns of the Shelby County program in 2016.

A native of Bewton, Wilcox made stops as an assistant at Verbena, Carroll-Ozark, Dale County and Enterprise before accepting his first head coaching gig at Marion County in 2014. During two seasons in Guin the UNA grad compiled a 10-14 record highlighted by a trip to class 1A semifinals in his first season.

Wilcox walks away from the Theron Fisher Stadium sidelines as the first head coach to depart the program with a winning record since Charles Boren lead the Bulldogs to a 28-22 record from 1998-2002.

Montevallo closed out 2019 at 6-5 capped by a 20-18 home playoff loss to the Talladega Tigers.

Wilcox’s career record currently stands at 38-30, 21-15 in region play, with four trips to the AHSAA postseason over six years as a head coach.
