Shades Valley nabs head coach from Arkansas

Irondale, AL – After parting ways with former head coach David Partridge following the 2019 season, Shades Valley has landed their next leader on the gridiron. The Mounties announce Thursday that North Little Rock, AR coach Jamie Mitchell with be the 6A program’s 22nd head football coach.

“We are excited to hire Jamie Mitchell at Shades Valley High School. To get a veteran championship coach to lead the program is exciting. Coach Mitchell is a proven winner and we expect him to do great things at Shades Valley,” Darrell Long, Director of Athletics for Jefferson County Schools

Mitchell has compiled a career head coaching record of 215-72, including leading the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats to six Arkansas class 7A championship game appearances, taking home the title in 2017. Before accepting the top job at North Little Rock, Mitchell spent served as the head coach and athletic director at Mississippi’s Starkville High School.

As the head football coach and athletic director, I will pour my heart into creating an overall program that the school, district administration, and community can be proud of. I am excited to get started, meet the players and coaching staff, faculty, and community. It will be a privilege to work under the leadership of Dr. Gonsoulin and Principal Sarhaan.”

Mitchell takes over a Shades Valley program who has posted a 5-15 record over the past two seasons.

The Mounties will be joined in 6A region 5 by former 7A foe Mountain Brook, traditional power Briarwood Christian, rival Homewood and Chelsea, Huffman and Woodlawn in 2020.
