Fairfield star spurns SEC powers, commits to local program

Birmingham, AL – Standout Fairfield receiver Malachi Bennett passed up the chance to play of the likes of the Georgia Bulldogs, Ole Miss Rebels, South Carolina Gamecocks, Tennessee Vols and Texas A&M Aggies, among others to stay home and suit for the UAB Blazers.

The 6’2, 185 pound three-star receiver made his pledge to Bill Clark’s Blazers on Saturday after narrowing his choice between UAB and Ole Miss.

Bennett hauled in 44 catches for 808 yards and nine touchdowns in route to being named to the ASWA 5A All-State football team as a junior in 2019. He enters his senior season ranked as the No. 11 player in Alabama and the 57th best receiver in the Nation.

Bennett and the Fairfield Tigers are slated to kickoff 2020 August 28th, on the road, at Center Point.
