Clay-Chalkville claws past Shades Valley

Irondale, AL – The 2020 high school football season started with a bang for the No. 6 ranked Clay-Chalkville Cougars.  Clay receiver Marqarius White took the opening kick to the house from 91 yards out in route to a 37-19 Cougars romp over the Shades Valley Mounties Friday night in Irondale.

The return would be the first of three first half scores for White who hauled in a pair of 25 yard scoring grabs from Cougars quarterback Khalib Johnson.

The Mounties, who are kicking off their 100th football season in program history, answered White’s score on their first drive as signal caller Earl Woods payed off a 17 play Shades Valley drive with a touchdown scamper from just inside the Cougar 10 yard line.

The fireworks continued as Shades Valley receiver Alfonzo Weathers hurled a pass to Woods for an 85 yard score with just over a minute remaining in the half.

After the break, mother nature and Alabama Power took center stage as play was haulted and the field cleared for a lightning delay and partial power outage late in the fourth ended the opener in true 2020 fashion.

Shades Valley returns to action next Friday night, welcoming the third ranked Pinson Valley Indians to the Frank Nix Athletic Complex.  Clay-Chalkville travels west to take on the Hueytown Golden Gophers.
