Cullman shuts out Jasper 21-0

Cullman, AL – The Cullman Bearcats (2-0) scored their second consecutive shutout of the 2020 season with a 21-0 thumping of the Jasper Vikings (1-1) Saturday afternoon at Oliver Woodard Stadium.

The Bearcats clash with the Vikings was pushed to Saturday afternoon due to the threat of inclement weather in North Alabama on Friday night.

The Bearcats jumped on the scoreboard three minutes into the contest as Noah Kee caped the Cat’s opening drive bolting into the endzone from just outside the Viking five yard line.

Max Dueland connected with a streaking Jamar Kay midway through the second quarter to extend the Cullman lead to 14-0 capping the first half of play.

The Vikings looked to be coming to life after the break, forcing the Bearcats to turn the ball over on downs on their first possession but came up empty after a 25 yard field goal sailed wide right.

The Cats capitalized on their next possession as Jaylen Hughey stormed into Viking territory being tripped up just shy of the Japer five yard line.  Hughey hit paydirt on the next play taking a Dueland handoff up the middle and into the endzone extending the Cullman lead to three scores.

The Cats sealed the afternoon win by running out the clock on a scoreless fourth quarter.

The Cullman victory tied the rivalry with their neighbors to the west with 35 wins apiece in a series that dates back to 1920.

Quarterback Max Dueland finished the day with 106 yards through the air, completing 4-of-9 passes and a touchdown while adding 42 yards on the ground.  Jake Dueland lead the Bearcat rushing attack piling up 140 yards on 12 carries.

Cullman will travel up I-65 to Hartselle’s J.P. Cain Stadium next Friday night to kickoff 6A Region 8 play.  The Vikings will welcome the eighth ranked Clay-Chalkville Cougars (2-0) to Ki-Ro/Gambrell Field.
