Gardendale, AL – The Tabernacle Christian Torches dropped their delayed season opener 34-26 to Montgomery’s Evangel Christian Academy Friday night at Mac Sanderson Field.

Despite being exiled from the practice field for two weeks due to COVID concerns, the Torches clawed to within two points of the former AISA program late in the forth.

First year head coach Clint Chase and the Torches will travel to Calhoun County next Friday night to take on the Jacksonville Christian Thunder.   After a September 18th trip to Columbus, MS to face the Victory Eagles, TCS is slated to return to Moncrief Park September 25th to take on arch rival Tuscaloosa Christian.

Tabernacle joined their North Jefferson neighbors in coming up short on the scoreboard Friday night.  The eighth ranked Gardendale Rockets fell at Pinson Valley 26 to 15, Mortimer Jordan came up short 27-14 to region foe Minor and Fultondale fell to Hanceville 43-34.  The Corner Yellow Jackets were the north metro’s lone winner, knocking off St. Clair County 28-27.
