Arab knocks off Southside-Gadsden 28-27

Arab, AL –  The Arab Knights snapped a three game losing skid slipping past the Southside-Gadsden Panthers 28-27 Friday night at the Arab SportsPlex.

The win improved the Arabian Knights to 2-3 overall (1-2 in Region 7 play) and gave head coach Lee Ozmint his first career class 6A victory.  The loss slipped Southside to 3-2, 1-2 in region play.

Gary Nelson’s Panthers erased a 13 point fourth quarter deficit before coming up short on a two point conversion attempt with just over a minute to play.

The Arabian Knight victory will likely loom large in the race for region 7’s final playoff spot.

Standout running back Michael Turnage carried the load for the Knights running for 176 yards on 30 carries.  The senior scored all four of the Knights touchdowns including three on the ground.  Turnage’s final score came courtesy of a Aidan Cox screen pass on 4th and 13 from the Panther 28.

Sophomore signal caller Aidan Cox connected on 11-of-14 passes for 182 yards and a score.

The Knights step out of region play next Friday night traveling to Morgan County to take on the winless Brewer Patriots (0-5, 0-2).
