Multiple Alabama football programs cancel games due to COVID-19

Birmingham, AL – Multiple prep football programs from across the state of Alabama have announced that they will be sidelined this week due to concerns related to COVID-19.  

In the Tennessee Valley, Hazel Green and Lee-Huntsville will both be effected.  Lee will forfeit their non-region game this Friday against 7A James Clemens (3-2).  The Generals, who are currently 1-3, plan to return to action October 2nd at home against the 0-5 Brewer Patriots.  Hazel Green will be off the gridiron for at least two weeks after 15 players entered coronavirus quarantine.  The 0-3 Trojans have a bye this week, they will forfeit their October 2nd region matchup with Muscle Shoals (3-1).  James Clemens has replaced their matchup against Lee with a home game against 6A Briarwood Christian (4-1). 

Jacksonville announced Tuesday that they will cancel their September 25 game with class 3A No. 1 Piedmont (4-0) and their October 2nd region matchup with the Handley Tigers (2-0).  Jacksonville is currently 4-1 and ranked No. 7 in class 4A.  The Calhoun County program confirmed that they are taking precautions due to a virtual student who is a member of the Golden Eagles football team testing positive for COVID-19.  

The Elmore County Board of Education announced on Monday that the 3-2 Wetumpka Indians will forfeit this Friday’s non-region game at Greenville following 12 players tasing positive for the coronavirus.  The Board said in a news release that the Wetumpka High administration and coaching staff with reevaluate the team’s status on September 28th.  The Indians are currently slated to return to the gridiron on October 2nd at home against the 4-1 Pelham Panthers.  

The Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils announced last week that they were entering a two week quarantine after a player returned a positive COVID test.  The Devils, who were idle last week, will drip to 0-4 following their forfeit loss to Briarwood Christian this Friday night.  Dusty Goode’s squad is slated to return to region play October 2nd, on the road, at 4th ranked Pinson Valley (4-1).
