Arab trounces Brewer 42-7

Somerville, AL – The Arab Arabian Knights knocked off the Brewer Patriots 42-7 Friday night at James R. Tucker Stadium.

The win improved the Knights to 3-3, 1-2 in region play.  Brewer slipped to 0-6 with four games remaining in the 2020 season.

The Knights jumped on the board early as senior running back Mathew Turnage paid off a six play, 69 yard drive with a touchdown strike from just outside the Patriot five yard line.

After stopping the Patriots on a fourth-and-five near midfield, the Knight offense took over marching back into the Brewer redzone and extending their lead to two scores as sophomore quarterback Aidan Cox capped the Arab drive with a one yard bolt into the endzone.

After another strong defensive stand by the Knights, Cox called his own number scoring on a 23 yard run and extending the Arab lead to 21-0 with six minutes and change remaining before the break.

The Arab defense rose the occasion again on the next Brewer drive as senior linebacker Christian Eaton picked off a Patriot pass attempt setting up Cox and the Knight offense in Patriot territory for the third consecutive possession.  After an unsportsmanlike penalty pushed the Knights back outside the Patriot 20, Turnage found the endzone for the second time extending the visitor’s lead to 28-0 with just under five minutes remaining in the second period.

A three-and-out by the Patriots gave the ball back back to Turnage who turned in a first half hat trick, scampering 52 yards for his third touchdown of the half.  The Knights lead 35-0 but they were not finished lighting up the James R. Tucker Stadium scoreboard.

With under 2:00 remaining in the opening half, Arab recovered the ensuing kick at the Patriot 15.  Four straight Aeron Mitchell runs later the Knights owned a 42-0 edge over their Morgan County rivals.

The Knights took their foot off the accelerator in the second half capping their score at 42.  The Patriots snapped the shutout in the fourth as quarterback Wyatt Styles capped a long Brewer drive with a scoring jaunt from inside the Arab ten yard line.

Brewer will look to snap their nine game loosing skid, which extends back to October 10 of last season, next week as they welcome the 1-4 Lee Generals to Somerville.

Arab is slated to rerun to 6A, Region 7 play by welcoming Pell City to the SportsPlex next Friday night.  Pell City (1-4, 0-2) is coming off a non-region forfeit loss to Calera in week five due to COVID-19 concerns.
