Mountain Brook blanks Homewood 28-0 to clinch region title

The win improve the second ranked Spartans to 6-0 on the season, 5-0 in region play. Homewood slipped to 5-3, 3-2. Michael Brogan accounted for all four of the Spartans scores, rushing for 109 yards on 25 carries. Despite not starting the game due to injury, senior quarterback Strother Gibbs passed for 55 yards, completing 4-of-6 passes while running for 33 yards, all in the second half. Jake Thompson lead the Spartan receiving corps with 5 catches for 20 yards.

The Spartans held Homewood to 103 total yards, 55 of which came on the Patriots first possession of the game which resulted in a blocked field goal attempt.

The road ahead doesn’t get any easier for the Patriots, they welcome the Briarwood Christian Lions (6-2, 4-1) to Waldrop Stadium before closing out the regular season at ninth ranked Pelham (7-1, 5-0). Mountain Brook returns to action next Friday, at home against region foe Chelsea (3-4, 2-2).
