Oak Mountain QB Evan Smith picks up Big Ten offer

Birmingham, AL – Oak Mountain quarterback Evan Smith picked up a surprise offer from Northwestern University on Wednesday.  

Smith said that he was “shell-shocked” when the Big Ten program extended the offer, his second from a power five program, after working out on the Evansville, Indiana campus as a cornerback on Wednesday. 

The speedy signal caller currently holds 17 offers from Northwestern, Duke, Army, Navy, Tulane, UAB, Western Carolina, Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Costal Carolina, Middle Tennessee, Murray State, Western Michigan, Georgia Southern, Samford and Jacksonville State.

The 5’9, 167 pounder completed 44 of 103 passes for 620 yards and six touchdowns while rushing for 1,719 yards on 171 carries while helping lead Oak Mountain to a 7-5 record in 2020 including a program best 4-0 mark to start the season and a trip to the AHSAA Class 7A quarterfinals.  

He was also named to the 7A All-State second team on the gridiron and started as the state champion Eagles’ point guard on the hardwood as a junior in 2020.
