Arab falls to #10 Guntersville 29-21 in rivalry clash

Guntersville, AL – The Guntersville Wildcats (1-1) extended their winning steak to nine games over the Arab Knights (1-1) with a 29-21 victory over their Marshall County arch rivals Friday night at Chorba-Lee Stadium.

Despite the loss, Arab quarterback Ed Johnson had another big night on the ground.  The senior scored all three of the Knights’ touchdowns finishing with 226 yards rushing on 39 carries while completing 9-of-22 passes for 63 yards and a pair of interceptions.  

The Wildcats carried a 14-7 edge into locker room at halftime in the hard fought showdown.  Coming out of the break, both team traded touchdowns in the third but the Cat’s defense pulled down Arab signal caller Ed Johnson in the endzone for a safety to increase their advantage heading into the final frame. 

Guntersville quarterback Cole McCarty finished the game with 146 yards, completing 12-of-22 passes and a score.  Logan Pate paced the Wildcats, ranked No. 10 in class 5A, on the ground with 109 yards on 20 attempts.  Cooper Davidson lead the Guntersville receiving corps with seven grabs for 79 yards. 

Arab receiver Wes Johnson caught four passes for 35 yards. 

Lee Ozmint’s Arabian Knights kick off 6A Region 7 play next Friday night, on the road, at Fort Payne (0-2).  Guntersville travels to Cullman County to take on the 2-0 Fairview Aggies.
