Tabernacle downs Victory-Columbus 68-22

Gardendale, AL – The potent Tabernacle Christian offense posted their second straight 60 point performance, knocking off CFA  foe Victory Christian (MS) 68-22 Friday night at Mac Sanderson Field. 

The Torches exploded to a 52-16 first half lead while holding the the Eagles to a single score after the break to close out the conference matchup. 

The win improves the Torches to 4-1 overall, 3-1 in CFA play, while dropping the Eagles to 0-2 on the season. 

Tabernacle junior quarterback Clinton Chase accounted for four scores, posting a pair of scores through the air, two on the ground and an 83 yard house call on a kickoff return.  He finished the night completing 5-of-7 passes for 111 yards while rushing for 46 yards on three carries.  Daniel McCormick was Chase’s favorite target, hauling in a pair of receptions for 102 yards and a pair of scores.  Josiah Jones snagged two catches for six yards while Reed Chase caught one for three yards.  

On the ground, junior Trae Andrews averaged 19 yards per carry racking up 172 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries.  Sophomore Troy Box ran for 40 yards on four attempts and a score, Reed Chase chipped in 16 yards on a pair of runs.  

Nine Torches recored stops on defense lead by junior Ethan Glass with seven, Abel Sharpe with five, Josiah Jones with four. Bryant Howard, Troy Box and Logan Bartlett added three, Daniel Walton and Trae Andrews recorded a pair and Clinton Chase made one.   Jones, Glass and Sharpe added two sacks a piece.  

Tabernacle returns to action next Friday night, on the road, at arch rival Tuscaloosa Christian (4-1).  Victory welcomes New Life Academy (0-3) to Columbus, MS.
