Tabernacle falls on the road to powerhouse Russell Christian

Meridian, MS – The Tabernacle Christian Torches fell to CFA power and three-time defending conference champion Russell Christian 49-6 Friday night in Meridian, Mississippi.  

The win was Russell Christian’s 15th straight overall and fourth consecutive over the Torches.  Russell, who is in command for the top seed in the CFA playoffs, unproved to 6-0 on the season, 3-0 in conference play.  Tabernacle slips to 5-2, 4-2, with a pair of conference matchups remaining before postseason play begins.  

After a scoring run by junior Trae Andrews in the first period, the Warriors, who have only yielded 31 points through six games, held the potent Tabernacle offense scoreless in the final three quarters.  

Andrews finished the night with 37 rushing yards on 11 attempts and the Torches lone score.  Junior quarterback Clinton Chase rushed for 19 yards on 8 carries while passing for 88 yards, completing 7-of-19 passes.  

Daniel McCormick lead the Tabernacle receiving corps, snagging 6 receptions for 79 yards.  Bryant Howard made one grab for seven yards while sophomore Josiah Jones caught one for six yards.

On defense 11 Torches recorded stops led by Andrews with nine, Troy Box with seven and Howard with six.  Howard and Daniel Walton picked off Warrior passes and Logan Bartlett recored a fumble recovery.  

Football Fact: The last time Tabernacle defeated Russell Christian on the gridiron, September 30, 2016, the Torches came away with a 92-82 victory in one of the highest scoring games in Alabama high school football history. 

Tabernacle celebrates homecoming Friday night by stepping out of conference play and welcoming Lighthouse Christian to Gardendale.  Russell travels to Montgomery to face CFA newcomer Success Unlimited Academy.
