Standout quarterback Ed Johnson connected with his twin brother Wes for scoring strikes of 39 and 49 yards and a 28 yard field courtesy of Gavin Currier put the Knights up 17-0 in what was effectively the Class 6A, Region 7 title game before the Yellow Jackets lit up the SportsPlex scoreboard midway through the second quarter.

Jackets quarterback Samuel Robertson hooked up with E’mari Carroll for a 14 yard score followed by a Preston Conger 33 yard fieldgoal in the second quarter to narrow the Knight lead to 17-10 at the half.

After the break, the Jackets evened things up as Robertson scored on a bolt into the endzone from inside the Arab one yard line.  Ed Johnson returned the favor for the Knights, scoring from one yard out with 2:47 remaining in the contest.

Trailing 24-17, the Oxford offense came to life, driving deep in to Arab territory and setting Jaydon Thomas up for a six yard rushing score to pull within one of the Knights.  After a failed two-point-conversion attempt, the Knight offense stalled giving the Jackets a chance to take the lead, trailing by a point, with just over a minute remaining.

Aided by a costly Arabian Knight penalty, Oxford drove to the Arab 37 yard line where Conger split the uprights from 37 yards out to seal the victory for the Yellow Jackets.

The victory puts Oxford in the drivers seat for the region title with a pair of region contests remaining.

Robertson finished the night with 192 yards thought the air, completing 18-of-25 passes.  Jaydon Thomas rushed for 101 yards on 19 carries.

Arab signal caller Ed Johnson completed 13-of-20 passes for 230 yards and two scores while running for 75 yards and a touchdown on 22 attempts.
