Top ranked Thompson rolls past Gadsden City 41-7

Alabaster, AL – The No. 1 ranked Thompson Warriors continued their gridiron domination Friday night with a 41-7 victory over Gadsden City at Warrior Stadium.  

The win improved the two-time defending state champion Warriors to 8-0 overall, 5-0 in Class 7A, Region 3.  Gadsden City slips to 5-3, 2-3 in region play. 

The nationally ranked Warriors, who have outscored opponents 400-26 through eight games, rolled up 409 total yards while holding the Titans to 133.

Thompson quarterback Connor Harrell finished the game with 136 yards through the air, completing 13-of-16 including three scores and an interception while running for 113 on seven attempts and a touchdown. Justin Pegues was Harrell’s favorite receiving target hauling in three grabs for 46 yards including a 26 yard touchdown catch.  Jaylen Ward caught a pair of touchdown passes, both from inside the Titan 10 yard line. Brandon Franklin carried the ball six times for 102 yards and a score.  

The stifling Thompson defense, who held the Titans to 5 yards on the ground, was lead by Jax Van Zandt with six total tackles and a sack.  Antonio Mitchell added a 93 yard pick six.  

Thompson closes out the regular season with a pair of top ten matchups.  Mark Freeman’s Warriors host No. 8 Oak Mountain (6-1, 4-1) next Friday night before traveling to the Hoover Met to take on the second ranked and undefeated Bucs (8-0, 5-0) October 22nd.   Gadsden City returns to action Friday night at home against the ninth ranked Hewitt-Trussville Huskies (6-2, 3-2).
