Tabernacle Falls to Powerhouse Russell Christian

Warrior, AL – The Tabernacle Christian Torches dropped to 3-3 on the season (3-2 in CFA play) after Friday night’s 42-28 home loss to defending conference champion Russell Christian (7-0) of Meridian, Mississippi.

The Torches jumped out to a 8-0 lead two minutes into the contest but the Warriors, who came into the game ridding a 26 game winning streak, answered back on their next possession.  After a failed Russell two-point conversion try, the Torches lead 8-6 with 9:44 remaining in the opening period.

The Warriors held a 20-8 advantage at the half but Clint Chase’s Torches rallied after the break, capitalizing on a Russell fumble to shrink the visitor’s lead to 20-14 with 11:31 remaining in the third quarter.  Russell crossed the goal line for the fourth time with 4:20 on the clock in the third period to pull ahead 26-14 before the Torches offense pulled back within a score with under a minute remaining in the third.

Tabernacle trailed 26-22 with 12:00 minutes remaining but the fourth quarter belonged to the Mississippians as they outscored the Torches 16-6 in the final period to extend their winning streak to 27 straight.

Tabernacle will celebrate homecoming next Friday night, stepping out of conference to welcome the East Central Patriots to Corner Middle School Stadium.
