Tabernacle rolls over East Central 66-27

Warrior, AL – The Tabernacle Christian Torches dominated the East Central Patriots to come away with a 66-27 Homecoming victory Friday night at Corner Middle School Stadium. 

Clint Chase’s Torches, who are currently ranked 15th nationally among 8-Man football squads, improved to 4-3 overall, 3-2 in CFA conference play.  The loss slipped the Patriots to 3-4 on the season.  

East Central jumped on the board early, finding the endzone on their first possession but the potent Torches offense fired back to carry a commanding 27 point lead at the half.  Following the TCS homecoming festivities, the Tabernacle defense rose to the occasion holding the Patriots scoreless in the final two quarters of play.  

Torches senior signal caller Clinton Chase turned in another standout performance completing 20-of-27 passes for 337 yards and five scores through the air while carrying the ball five times and racking up 91 yards and a pair of scores on the ground.  

Trae Andrews lead the Tabernacle rushing attack, rolling to 123 yards and a score on 12 attempts while pulling down a 76 yard touchdown reception.

Bryant Howard was Chase’s favorite target through the air, the senior snagged five grabs for 152 yards and three scores.  Daniel McCormick scored a pair of receiving touchdowns, catching six passes for 50 yards.  Reed Chase made five catches for 46 yards, Hunter Richardson grabbed three for 13 and sophomore Justin Blackburn made one catch for 7 yards. 

Howard led the stingy Torches defense with seven tackles and an interception, senior Daniel Walton added five stops including a tremendous touchdown saving tackle.  Andrews chipped in five tackles, Josiah Jones added four, Richardson recored three. Reed Chase made three tackles, Michael Warded added a pair, Aaron Peters chipped in one.  Justin Blackburn recorded a sack and McCormick picked off a Patriots pass.  

Tabernacle senior Breanna Kizzire was the biggest award winner of the night, being named Miss TCS at halftime of the  homecoming contest.  

The Torches have the week off before welcoming conference foe Cornerstone Christian (4-3, 2-3) to Corner Friday October 21st in a contest that will determine playoff seeding.
