Dustin Goodwin Named Plainview Head Coach

Rainsville, AL – Sources have confirmed to PrepsNet that Hueytown offensive coordinator Dustin Goodwin is likely to be named the next head football coach of the Plainview Bears.

If confirmed by the DeKalb County School Board, Goodwin will replace outgoing coach Dale Pruitt who recently accepted the head coaching position at Albertville.  Pruitt lead the Bears for a total of 26 seasons.

The Plainvew Bears are coming off a 9-3 campaign which ended in a loss at Colbert County in the second round of the AHSAA 3A playoffs.

Goodwin served as Hueytown’s Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach last season, leading the Golden Gopher offense to 14.9 points per game, ending with a 3-7 record.  Before joining Scott Mansell’s staff at Hueytown, Coach Goodwin lead the offense at Homewood High School from 2011-2013.  During his tenure at Homewood, the Patriots finished the 2012 and 2013 seasons as region champs, and had a record of 12-0 in region play.  From 2008-2010, Goodwin served as Quarterback’s Coach at Russellville High School.  During his time at Russellville, the Golden Tigers reached the AHSAA 5A state championship game in 2008 and 2009, and compiled a record of 36-7.

The Dempolis High graduate, earned his BS in Physical Education from the University of North Alabama in 2008 while playing quarterback for the Lions.   Before transferring to UNA, Goodwin was a member of the 2004 Auburn Tigers football squad.

Goodwin is the son of Alabama high school coaching legend and AHSAA Hall of Fame inductee Doug Goodwin, the elder Goodwin currently serves as Auburn University’s Director of Football Operations.
