Alexandria, AL – For the first time in program history the Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils (13-1) will represent North Jefferson county in the AHSAA Super 7 Championships at The University of Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Dusty Goode’s 2015 Devils have put together the deepest playoff run in the 95 year history of the program.  Last week’s victory over the previously unbeaten Guntersville Wildcats cemented this Devils squad’s place in program history, advancing to the semifinals for the first time.  MJHS’s only previous trip to the third round ended with a 39-10 loss to the Alexandria Valley Cubs in 1995.  That undefeated Alexandria squad went on to win the AHSAA 4A State Title.

This go around the visiting Devils got their revenge, not only for the defeat in the mid 90’s but more importantly for the the three point loss the Cubs handed MJ earlier this season, the only blemish on the club from Kimberly’s record.

Jordan will face St. Paul’s Episcopal (12-2) Thursday night at 7:00 in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

No stranger to the Super 7, the defending 5A Champion St. Paul’s Saints will be looking to take their fourth state championship trophy back Mobile.  Last season, St. Paul’s defeated Jefferson County’s Pleasant Grove Spartans 35-13 at Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium in the 5A title game.

A victory will join the Blue Devils with the Tabernacle Christian Torches as the only schools in the North Jefferson area to bring home statewide championships on the gridiron.
