One of the metro area’s biggest rivalries will not continue in 2016. For the first time in 19 years, the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies will not face their Deerfoot Parkway neighbors, the 6A State runner-up Clay-Chalkville Cougars.
The northeast Jefferson County campuses are located approximately one mile apart.
HTHS lost many of their natural rivalries as a result of AHSAA reclassification, earlier this month, but this move was a deliberate one on the part of the Huskies.
The perennial power, Cougars, have won the last four contests against the 7A Huskies and hold a 13-6 series lead.
Josh Floyd’s Huskies only Jefferson County opponent in 2016 will be the 6A Center Point Eagles on September 23rd at Hewitt-Trussville Stadium.
Clay-Chalkville has not announced who will replace Hewitt on their schedule to close out the season.
