Blake Smalley to Take Over Handley Tigers Hoops Program

Roanoke, AL – Opelika Bulldogs’ assistant basketball coach, Blake Smalley, has been tapped to lead the Handley Tigers men’s hoops program.

This will be the Arab High and Auburn University graduate’s first varsity head coaching position.  He spent the past three seasons as a varsity assistant and JV head coach at Opelika.

Smalley takes over from Clifton Drummonds who resigned in May to become assistant principal at Athens High School.  Drummonds lead his 2013 team to the AHSAA Final Four and has had the Tigers in the regional finals two of the last three seasons.

Handley returns all five starters from last seasons team that fell one game shy of reaching the Final Four.

Smalley’s sister Alli (Smalley) Bracewell is currently the the director of basketball services at Auburn University.
