Bessemer Academy replaces Edgewood in Kick-off Classic Lineup

Montgomery, AL –  The Southeastern Commission of Independent Schools has adjusted the lineup for the inaugural Kick Off Classic following the withdrawal of Alabama powerhouse Edgewood Academy and Mississippi’s Jackson Prep.

After the departure of Edgewood Academy head coach Bobby Carr, and several key players, the Wildcats are out and the Bessemer Academy Rebels are in.

With the resignation of longtime coach Bobby Carr and newly hired coach Eric Folmar, we feel it is in the best interest for all parties to not participate in this game.  This will give our coach time to hire and have his staff in place in hopes of having our boys ready for the first game on Aug. 26.  Edgwood Academy Headmaster Clint Welch said in a press release.

Edgewood currently holds the nations longest active winning streak.  The new look Wildcats will now put their streak on the line August 26th against Pelham’s Hope Christian.

With the Wildcats out, the SECIS turned to the 2015 AISA state champion Bessemer Academy Rebels.  The Rebels will take on the Lamar School Raiders of Meridian, MS.

Bessemer Academy is coming off an undefeated season, capped by an AISA-AAA state title.  2015 marked the Rebels third trip to the AISA championship game in as many seasons.

Lamar is bringing in a Raiders squad that advanced to the MPSA 4A semifinals, sporting an 8-4 record in 2015.

The Kickoff Classic, pitting private school programs from Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Mississippi will be played August 12th  and 13th at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl.
