Walker Names New Women’s Hoops Coach

Jasper, AL – The Walker Vikings did not travel far to find their new women’s head basketball coach.

One week after Vikings head coach Willie Moore resigned to accept the same position at Huntsville High School, the Walker ladies had their new leader.

Walker County native and current head girls hoops coach at Jasper’s Maddox Middle School, Anna Barnett, is the new head coach of Walker women’s basketball.

Barnett, who has spent the past two seasons as head coach of the Maddox Panthers, brings experience as a varsity head coach and college assistant to her new role leading the 6A Vikings.

She has served on the hardwood, in some capacity, with the Jasper City School system since joining Heath Brunner’s staff as a varsity women’s assistant in 2013.

Before coming to Jasper, Barnett lead the women’s hoops squad at her alma mater, Sumiton Christian, for one season.

Barnett coached on the college level for the University of Montevallo both as a student and full time assistant.

She is taking over a Vikings squad that finished the 2015-2016 season with a 18-13 record.
