Bessemer, AL – Bessemer City High School offensive line coach Quintin Jackson will serve as the Tiger’s interim head football coach through the 2017 season.
The 36 year old Mobile native takes over for former BCHS head coach Martez Edwards who lead the Tigers to a 30-18 record over four seasons including a class 6A quarterfinal appearance in 2015.
Bessemer City requires varsity coaches to re-apply for athletic positions on an annual basis. Edwards did not re-apply for his head coaching position following the 2016 football season.
Before joining Edwards staff at Bessemer City in 2014, Jackson served as an assistant at Choctaw County High, head coach at Dempolis Middle School and offensive line coach at Birmingham’s Parker High School.
Jackson received his bachelors’ and masters degrees from the University of West Alabama, lettering in football for four years as an offensive lineman.
According to sources, former Fairfield head coach L.C. Cole and former Minor coach George Bates interviewed for the position in March. Bates recently accepted the top job at Birmingham City’s Woodlawn High.
Jackson’s Purple Tigers will kick off the 2017 season August 25th on the road at Tuscaloosa’s Central High School.
