Postgame Recap | Mtn Brook shuts out Helena 41-0

Helena, AL – The Mountain Brook Spartans rolled to 2-0 with a 41-0 shutout of the Helena Huskies (0-1) in week 1 of the AHSAA football season.

The Spartans held Helena to 254 yards of total offense and forced five turnovers including two interceptions by Lawson Peoples and Luke Stamba.  

Senior running back Harold Joiner put the Spartans on the board early in the first quarter with a 1 yard touchdown scamper. 

A.J. Gates kicked off a big second quarter for the visitors, putting Mountain Brook up 12-0 on an 8 yard run. Quarterback Hamp Sission connected with Tye Pouncey for the Spartans lone touchdown through the air midway through the second. 

Joiner added touchdowns two and three late in the second quarter to put the Spartans up 34-0 heading into the break.

Spartan reserves got a a lot of work the contest’s final two quarters following Joiner’s final score early in the 3rd, this one from just inside the 5.

Joiner ended the game with four TD’s for the second game in a row while accounting for 101 of the Spartans 218 rushing yards. 

Sisson completed 12 of 15 passes for 164 yards through the air and added 20 yards on three carries on the ground.

Pouncy lead the Spartans in receiving hauling in five receptions for 60 yards including a first half touchdown grab. 

Mountain Brook returns to action Friday night hosting defending state champion Hoover (1-1) at Spartan Stadium.  Helena kicks off their 6A region 3 schedule this week, welcoming the Chilton County Tigers (0-2) to Husky Stadium.
