Caleb Ross named Prattville Lions head football coach

Prattville, AL – After spending one season as the head coach of the Opelika Bulldogs, Caleb Ross is returning to his alma mater.   The 1990 Prattville High graduate was officially named the Lions 35th head football Tuesday night by the Autauga County School Board.  

Ross takes over for former Prattville head coach Chad Anderson who was dismissed in January following a 3-6 2017 campaign. 

During his one year stint at Opelika Ross lead the Bulldogs to a 9-4 record caped by a trip to the third round of the AHSAA 6A playoffs.  Before making the move to Opelika, the Samford University graduate spent three seasons as the head football coach of the McGill-Toolen Catholic Yellow Jackets.  During his time in Mobile he compiled a 30-8 record including back-to-back trips to the 7A state title game, a pair of region championships and the programs first state football title in 2015.

Prior to arriving at McGill in 2013, Ross spent time as the offensive coordinator at Spanish Fort in 2012, head coach at Thompson in 2011 and five seasons as an assistant at Prattville from 2006 to 2010.  Prior to returning for his first stint at his alma mater he spent four years as an assistant at Mississippi’s Clinton High School.  

During his time as a student athlete at Prattville, he was a Montgomery All-Metro selection on the gridiron and was chosen to play in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game in 1996.  

Ross’ career head coaching record currently stands at 41-20 over 5 years and includes a 9-2 postseason mark, a pair of region titles and a 7A state championship.   

Overall, the 16 year coaching veteran has been a part of five Alabama high school state football championships, three at Prattville (2006, 2007, 2008), one at Spanish Fort (2012) and one as a head coach at McGill-Toolen (2015).
