McGill-Toolen takes Hoover City Elite 7on7 title

Hoover, AL – The 2017 7A state runner-up McGill-Toolen Yellow Jackets rolled into the home of the state champs and captured the inaugural Hoover City Elite National 7on7 title.

Second year head coach Earnest Hill’s Jackets fell to the Hazel Green Trojans 21-20 in the tournament’s opening contest but didn’t suffer another loss for the rest of the weekend.  McGill notched wins over in-state powers Clay-Chalkville, Park Crossing, Opelika and Rush Propst’s Colquitt County Packers (GA) in route to a title game showdown with the Spanish Fort Toros.

The Jackets took care of their south Alabama rivals 23-4 in the tournament’s final game.

McGill-Toolen will begin defending their 7A region 1 title, August 24th against Spanish Fort, the squad that they defeated in Hoover, at Lipscomb Park.
