Gridiron Gallery | Helena rallies to beat Chelsea 28-21

Chelsea, AL – The Helena Huskies improved to 2-4, 1-2 in region play, Thursday night with a 28-21 come from behind win over the Chelsea Hornets (0-6, 0-4) Thursday night at Chelsea Stadium.  

Helena jumped out to a 14-0 lead on a pair of rushing scores by quarterback Luke Stamba early in the Shelby County showdown.  

The Hornets swiped the lead heading into the half after three second quarter scores.  Running back Ethan Shaw scored on a run from inside the Husky 5, quarterback Turner Griffin called his own number rushing in from the 18 and Steven Fant hauled in a 65 yard pick six.  

Chelsea lead 21-14 a the break.  

In the third, Stamba connected with Riley Marks from 35 yards out to tie the game at 21 apiece.  Helena’s Marquis Johnson broke the stalemate midway through the 4th on a 65 yard run.  

Dustin Goodwin’s Hornets came up short on a late game drive deep in to Husky territory with seconds to play, giving the Huskies their first win over Chelsea in program history.  

Chelsea signal caller Luke Stamba finished the contest with 90 yards through the air and 70 on the ground while accounting for three scores.  Marquis Johnson paced the Huskies on the ground with 185 yards on 26 carries including the game winning score.  

Helena welcomes 6A region 5 foe G.W. Carver (4-1, 1-1) to Husky Stadium next Friday night.  Chelsea travels to Homewood (4-1, 2-0) to take on the Patriots at Waldrop Stadium.
